Mexican-inspired muñeca "doll" is well known in Mexican culture as made from paper mache dolls. 
 
Lupitas are made of paper mache, this ancient technique is native to countries such as China, India and Persia. In Mexico its origin was a result of necessity. During the time of the Porfiriato, and before Independence, beautiful and expensive porcelain dolls brought from Europe arrived in the country. All girls wanted to play with one, however, not all families could afford this toy. This is how the Lupitas were born, small homemade dolls made for the entertainment of popular class children.
